Our History
Our original restaurant was opened by Twyla Housh’s father in 1983 in Noel. Big R’s moved locations a few times before settling in its current home in 1998. Twyla bought the restaurant in 2000.
With a 39-year history and 24 years in one spot, Big R’s has secured its reputation as one of Joplin’s most beloved barbeque joints! You will have a blast looking at the wall art! Big R’s has had years to fill up the dining area with their aptly named “hillbilly chic” decorations. Every single wall is embellished with vintage memorabilia and antiques to stir up nostalgia in the adults- and confusion in the kids! The wall art is accented by dimly lit lights, to give guests a warm, and cozy cabin experience.
Our mission is to make our guests feel right at home when they come to Big R’s. Our passion is old-fashioned cooking, barbecuing, and making sure everyone feels welcome. It’s a standard we’ve always had and one we intend to keep!
Our Hours
Our restaurant is currently open Monday – Wednesday from 11 AM – 4 PM, and Thursday – Saturday from 11 AM – 9 PM. We are closed on Sundays. Stop by and see us today!
Our Menu
Our menu is full of staple appetizers like our R’s Fried ‘Shrooms, and even our Tower – O -Rings, which is a mouth-watering tower, full of our COLOSSAL beer-battered rings served with our signature R’s Dippin’ Sauce. Mmm! On Thursdays, we have half-priced apps from 4 PM until close!
Right here at Big R’s BBQ, we also serve salad options that include our tasted Hickory Smoked Brisket and our Fried or Grilled Chicken. What more could you ask for on a salad?
Although, when visiting our restaurant, we recommend trying our ‘From-Scratch Fried’ chicken sandwiches, our ‘Premium Flame broiled’ burgers, and our ‘Slow-Hickory Smoked’ ribs and brisket. We promise you won’t regret it!
